Such a simple question, so many more questions and answers.

What type of plugs and sockets are you going to use?

What size wiring are you going to use?

What is the load/draw of what you plan on powering?

Here is a string that talks to some of the issues:

http://tnttt.com/viewto ... ht=#692411

In particular note the weaknesses of cigarette lighter sockets and plugs. They have their uses but are not a good design and are not suited for more than about ten amps (if that).

Here is a site with better connectors designed for 12 volts:

http://www.andersonpower.com/products/s ... ctors.html

In short the fuse should be sized to protect the wiring and recepticle/plug that you are using. The wiring should be sized to provide enough capacity to ensure that the voltage drop in the wire is small enough so as not to affect the operation of the device being powered.

If you post more information I'm sure you'll get more information in reply than you ever wanted, ha.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gus

I am with Gus on this. I have set up my Waco refirferator to be inside the Subaru when traveling and there is a power plug (cigeret type) factory wired in the back. Could not get enough current for the refrigrator to run properly. I cut off the plug on the refigerator and ran a pair of 10ga wires to the battery and used powerpole connectors. My eberspacher heater, solar panels... all use powerpoles.

Thanks for the replies. I used 16awg wires and after looking at some posts, it looks like I will be using a 10amp fuse.
