Wiring the WFCO - 120VAC input

Postby GuitarPhotog » Sat Mar 12, 2011 2:39 pm

I have received my WFCO 8725, and it comes with no info on how to wire the 120VAC side.

I have installed a tandem 30/20 breaker with the intention of using the 30A for the input main breaker and the 20A to protect a branch circuit.

Looking at the AC side of the WFCO, I see that it is intended to be wired like a house, with one hot side input shared across all the breakers, as in the lower portion of my diagram.

But, it seems to me that instead of wiring the hot input to the hot buss, I could wire it to the output side of the 30A breaker and use that to feed the hot buss, as shown in the upper diagram.

Before I go wire it up and blow something up, does anyone see, other than maybe a code violation, any reason why I cannot wire it as shown in the upper diagram?

Thanks to those here who posted wiring diagrams for the WFCO, I would have been completely lost without their help.

Thanks for the links. The first is just a PDF of the manual that comes in the box. No info there.

The second contains lots of info, but none addresses whether I can use one of the breakers in series with the supply as a "Main" breaker.

Still looking, but I might hook it up and see what happens.

Oh, and the WFCO diagram shows it hooked up as per my lower diagram. That's standard practice.

Well, I wired it up per my lower drawing, connected the battery and some of my LED lights.

All seems to work well, with the lights drawing about 400mA from the battery when they are all on, and the WFCO supplying about 800mA of trickle charge power to the battery when plugged into shore power.

All seems well on the bench, so I'm going to install it in the Tin Tent this week 8)

This thread is very helpful.
Also, look at some of the links mentioned in it.

I searched a lot on this topic, and others.

Here is some help:

-Go to the SEARCH option at the top.
-type in words that fit you query.
-Select "Search for all terms" button
-Search.

The "all terms" button limits your search and keeps you on task.
