I bought a couple of RV rocker switches that are inluminated when swithed on, they are 16a-125-250v and 10a -14v, are these sufficient as the main batter power swith and a water pump switch?

I would not use either of those as a main battery disconnect switch. Fine for water pump usage, but main disconnect switches should be high amperage rated switches designed for the purpose.

An Automotive disconnect is readilly available at any good parts house. I picked mine up at Advance Auto parts about $13.00

I bought a marine battery disconnect switch similar to what is suggested here. As it turned out I never did find an acceptable location for such a switch and decided that the wingnut on the positive battery post was actually all the disconnect that I really needed. It takes up no additional space and is quite effective at eliminating current flow. :thumbsup:

If you are trying to put a switch inline on a very heavy battery cable then no, a rocker switch is too light duty.

If you are using wire which is equally rated to the switch at 12 Volts, 10 Amps, then they will work.
A fuse between the battery and first shut off switch is a must, if you don't already have one, and should be rated at no more than 10 Amps.

Harbor Freight has battery disconnects cheap! I never use mine...didn't even get it installed. I do have a battery maintainer on it most of the time though....

Get a coupon and if on sale is even cheaper.

If you go to an autoparts store most sell water proof breakers that have a button and lever on them.. They are rated for high amps. Anywhere from 80 to 200 amps.. Work great for both a large fuse and a battery cut off.. Push the button opens the breaker.. Flip the leaver back to close it. Water proof so you can mount it outside the battery box where its easy to access.

Your switches would be fine on your water pump though.
