Good source for 7-pin trailer connector and 7-cond wire

Postby GuitarPhotog » Mon Mar 26, 2012 3:14 pm

Title says it all.

I'm converting my 1948 teardrop to use a 7-pin connector (for backup lights and battery charging), and am looking for a good on-line source for 7-pin connector and cable. I don't want to buy blind and get a chinese-made piece-o-crap that has to be replaced next year.

And, yes I understand wire colors and standards and proper wiring protocols, so I don't need advice on how to do it, just where to buy it.

Thanks

I used one of these...

To terminate ...

Also comes in lengths longer than 3 feet (check similar trailer sites) and wire colors are not consistence with "some" standards... Wire by function not by color....

I ended up ordering a Pollak 12706 connector and 10 feet of 7-conductor jacketed cable from eTrailer.com.

The cable will terminate at a terminal strip on the electrical panel in the trailer, where it will split for turn/brake lights, clearance lights, and back-up lights.

Thanks for the pointer to eTrailer.com, I was having difficulties searching because some sites call them 7-way connectors, some call them 7-pole connectors, and some call them 7-wire connectors :?

A google search will find anything, the problem is separating the wheat from the chaff. I'm amazed at the keywording some sites use. It seems they slap every possible product keyword on every possible product. I had searches for "7-pin trailer conductor" turn up jewelry pins of conductor's batons!

Thanks to all here for the answers, over and over

I go to pretty much "visual" searched...

Usually go to GOOGLE or BING "images" find what I want visually and them follow image back to source...

Google

I even find things I did not know I was looking for....

See what I mean, they call it a "7-way" connector ;-)

I've bookmarked their site, thanks for the pointer. Too late for this purchase but maybe next time.

That junction box is great.
It has 7 brass screws with nut for easy hook up.
I mount it to the first cross member after the draw bar for easy access if needed later on.
Well worth the money.

I got the Pollack 7-way connector and 10ft of 7-conductor cable from etrailer.com. Excellent service and quick delivery.

The trailer end of the cable will terminate at a terminal strip on the electrical panel in the teardrop, so no junction box required.

I should be done with the re-wiring project today or tomorrow. I'll post some pix when I'm done.
