Coleman hotwater and solar panel?

Postby Grey Duck » Thu Sep 29, 2005 9:13 am

I like the look of the Coleman Hot Water system.
It would save time on heating water for dishes.

Is there a way to wire up a solar panel to recharge the batery and shut off after it has been charged up? I am thinking this would work for when the power goes out or when the "Ring of Fire" wakes up.

Robert--
We have a Coleman water heater and use it often. We can camp for about a week before we need to recharge the battery. The last time we just plugged it into the 12V system of the trailer. We recharged it for an hour or two and were good to go for a long time. When we got home then we plugged it into the 110V to give it an overnight charge.

Coleman doesn't say how long the battery will last before charging.

I am only in the idea stage for my trailer now and not sure how much electrical stuff I want or need.

Sure, there are devices called solar charge controllers. A small inexpensive one is all you need for a single solar module.

Thanks. Now I have to figure out what else I want in the galley.

Actually, the website says approx 40 US gallons on 16.4 oz propane bottle and 1 battery charge.
