I hear bad wiring can cause cars to catch fire

most of us buy into a system that is hooked up to the lights of our pulling unit. no additional fuses or switches.

When I put in new lights I check each light and see if it still works farther down the system.

I at one time thought of a box that has both male and female trailer plug on it so no mater what plugged in if something was wrong they would blow first.

I am using wires from different past and new harnesses because I am putting on the LED lights I want. Each have ground wires which will go to both the pull unit and the trailer frame.

The Batteries that i use will also be grounded on the trailer frame.

any one have any input on this or words for present and future trailer builders.

Bad wiring is a bad deal. If there is one thing I'm anal about is my wiring. Poor wiring fails sooner or later.

All wires going from my vehicle are fused at their source. My hot wire coming off the battery has a master fuse within inches of the positive post. That wire runs to my fuse box and everything is on it's own fused circuit. All fuses are appropriately rated for the wire they are protecting.

I might blow a fuse but I'll not burn anything down.

My charging line from the previous TV to TD was fused at both ends. When it was first installed it had only a fuse at the TV end. A short circuit because of melted insulation blew the fuse at the TV end, but since there was no fuse at the TD end, it proceeded to melt the wire in the electrical panel, and start a small fire in the electrical compartment. I happened to stop and open the TD cabin and smelled wood smoke, but by then the actual fire had gone out and all that was left were some melted wires and a charred plywood wiring panel.

My current TV has fuses on all wires leading to the factory installed trailer connectors.
