Postby Nanner » Sun Mar 07, 2021 7:32 pm

Looking for a 12V air conditioner. Found one but it won't work out. Any one know of something? TIA

lots of stuff in the older threads about this (you can search). The fundamental problem is that air conditioning takes so much power it isn't practical to run off of a battery.

The only practical 12V is a swamp cooler which increases the humidity, fine for desert but nowhere else. I have played around with the idea of a small engine powered system using automotive components but frankly a generator is about the only easily practical solution.

Low voltage DC, A/C currently a dream. There are a few models on the market. About the lowest I have seen is a 50 amp hour drain. That requires a massive battery pack. A tesla battery pack might work for a while. Then you need some way of charging it back up. Plus the size issue. There is one member that was installing a tesla pack in his camper for power and to supplement his tesla car. I can't remember his name.

I can tell you a 5k btu unit is just enough for my TD on hot days. The batteries to run it 8 hours would cost more than a generator to power it for the whole weekend. The new inverter generators are really quiet.
