I just want a fan thats it!!!

Im making my first teardrop and I know this sounds crazy but all I want is a fan/vent in my camper. I found one on ebay I like, take a look. My camper is just going to be a little rustic teardrop.

Anyways I have never done any electrical work I think I can do it but its starting to make My head hurt. I think I need a 12 volt battery and a charger I think... I dont even know what I should buy. Please help a brotha out!!!

That fan won't move any air... it'd be like not having one at all... You're better off finding a fantastic fan or a northern breeze.

..it'll also be noisy while it does it...on the battery/charger thing, if you look in the electrical secrets forum, you will find several discussions on chargers/converters/batterys

I'm considering not using a fan at all... they are good for the initial opening after being on the road, but after that, natural convection seems to do a pretty good job of moving hot air out the top......

So, I do use the fan, but not very often. When hot, I use a/c, when cold, I use the heater..... there is only a 20 degree window when I use the vent, and rarely the fan... but I agree, those dinky little fans are very noisy, turning at a high rpm... the fantastic vent/fan is much better.....

I agree with no fan. I also didn't want to breach the roof. I just pictured sitting in a downpour watching my headliner drip. No thanks. If you're going rustic, consider leaving a sizeable opening between the galley and the cabin. I left about 6" along the ceiling. When I open the galley hatch, and the side doors, all the hot air comes rushing out through the galley. I've never been hot in the trailer: I just leave the windows open and the hatch up. At night, the windows are open and the hatch down.

you know I think Ill just go with out the fan and get a vent. whew that was a close one, I know if I got the fan, then I would need to wire some lights, then I would need a radio, then a little dvd player and then a....... in the end I think I would have gone broke, but as far as lighting Im just going to use those cheap battery opperated push button lights, thanks guys, I almost just wasted a bunch of money on somthing that wouldn't do what I wanted it too.

on second thought look at these fans what if they were mounted like right above where your head would be (2 feet). do you think they would work?

Im thinking about just making a box to hold them and do all the wiring in there. then a switch on the out side. what do you think?

Those are muffin fans often found in computers... they move very little air, but I'm considering using one or two in my tear to circulate heat. The box heater I use puts out a lot of heat that winds up at the top of the tear.... Hand up, about 80 degrees.... where my head is when lying down, about 65..... The heat stratifies very noticeably... I think a muffin fan on each side near the top might be enough....

If mounted in a vent, they would help... and they are quiet. But, they do not move a ton of air.

I'm not sure a muffin fan is going to be enough.. In the Lil Diner I leave the roof vent closed, but turn the fan on very low, to blow the hot air down. It works well... (I use a Northern breeze which lets me run much slower than a Fantastic Fan. )

We got ours here. We just called them directly... Prices are about the same as Fantastic Fan.

On the lowest speed the Northern Breeze is very quiet. At the higher speeds it's the same as the Fantastic Fan, since it moves the same amount of air!

Look in this picture... do you see that slide towards the lower left? That's how you control the speed.

You would be so much better off with either a Fantastic or a Northern Breeze Fan. That little fan is a bathroom fan or what we in the business call it "an odor motor". Its very noisy so as to mask "Bathroom sounds".

I use an osculating fan mounted near the window. Moves a lot of air, can be swung in front of the window or pointed right at you. $15.

I bought a vent from Mike with remote open/close, fan and light but never have used the fan even in 90°+ days. But, I would recommend installing all the insulation that will fit in your roof. I'll have to admit that the fan is nice when a skeeter gets inside and I can suck him up into the screen for an easy capture.

Well no wonder Denny... you have no humidity...

I recall sleeping in NY with that roof vent... it was like 95* and 110% humidity... we could barely sleep that night... that's when we decide a change in plans was necessary...
