Discrepancy between Renogy and Victron

Postby nsfr1206 » Fri Nov 04, 2022 12:26 pm

My Renogy solar charge controller is showing my battery is 100% charged and my panels are bringing in power. The only things running are a dc refrigerator and the fan for composting toilet. My Victron gauge inside camper is showing my battery is down in the 80’s on percent. Why the discrepancy? Why aren’t 400 watts of solar on a sunny day not keeping that at 100%?

It’s actually a Renogy battery monitor inside camper.

If I understand the situation correctly: You have a renogy solar charge controller and a Victron battery monitor. Find the renogy setting for the absorption voltage of your battery (when it should be full). Then on the Victron BMV monitor, under battery settings, set the charged voltage to that.

I bet the charged voltage is higher than the absorption voltage on the charger.

Thanks. I actually have a Victron charger, a Renogy solar controller and a Renogy battery monitor. I reset the battery monitor to read 100%. The Victron charges to 14.2 absorption. It’s strange to me that even plugged in after dropping while traveling it won’t show that it’s charged up for a long time. I’ll keep an eye on it after my next trip and see if I got it figured out. Thanks again.

FWIW, I generally trust Victron equipment much more than Renogy.
