Completely unimaginative first post...

Postby OurSquishy » Mon Jan 21, 2013 11:18 am

Hello, all.

Former lurker turned member recently and while I patiently wait for the arrival of my NT+E trailer to start my build... I'm scouring the board for ideas and cleaver ideas. You guys are terrific! Thanks for all the great info and L O V E all the pics! (Also, I did try the search feature before posting but didn't find anything)

Now, on to the question...

Where are ppl finding the RED water storage containers? I mean blue is a nice color and all and I would never say anything to hurt his feelings, but the RED wowza, she's a looker! ;)

Thanks!
Heather

    Heather,
You should post a picture or other information on the container that you have in mind. If you're meaning the red plastic gasoline jugs, don't - obvious chance for a mix up. I've also been given to believe that the chemistry of the red plastic is dangerous for drinking water.

oops, I guess that would really help... I have seen them a few times around the web, they look to be similar to the blue aqua-tainer models rather than a gasoline jerry can. In the pic, it is below the stove drawer.

Sorry about the image quality :NC

the red one may be for transporting bio hazard ( blood / body fluids ) waste .
an unused one can prob be bought and a spout added .
or this may work

Thanks all for posting and reading, I was actually able to track down the source of the pic (a gentleman that builds for others out of Illinois.). He was kind enough to reply that it is actually a regular blue Coleman one that has been painted with plastic paint :)

Hey Heather, Welcome to the forum! It's great to be able to paint the blue containers, never thought of that. As to making them work well, that's easy.
We copied our good friends Debbie and Randy's idea for the water storage for their awesome Monstro Teardrop trailer

Here's their solution for a neat water storage system. You can check out their build here: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=41295&highlight=monstero

Here's our copy of it. The cabinets doors keep it clean and the slide out drawer makes it convenient.

All the Best,

Heather ,,,as I mostly camp solo, I went from a five gallon blue water jug to a two gallon one , available in many colors, I can usually find a water source if I run out, which I haven't yet. My truck is horsepower challenged so I look for anyway to cut weight.
Happy camping....TC

Heather, welcome to the forum. It's always nice to see another lady builder. There are quite a few of us on here. As far as clever ideas....no shortage of those around here. The best place to find them is to go to the build journal section and look through as many journals as you can. Also the galley gallery is awesome and much inspiration for terrific galleys can be found there. Enjoy your build, and start a build journal with lots of pictures. We all love them.

Dave, that water jug drawer is S-W-E-E-T. We are going with smaller jugs as well, so we can just lift then in and out easily, but if I were using a bigger one, I would definitely want a drawer like yours. How do you keep that jug from leaking? We have one just like it and we have to turn it upright when not in use because it seems to drip constantly no matter what we do. That's one of the reasons we decided to go with a couple of smaller jugs instead of one large one. Now we just keep the blue one filled up at home in case we have a water failure.
Life is sooooo good.........

Hi from another lady on the forum, the debbie of which dave speaks with the water drawer. We do love it. Leaking has only occasionally been a problem, when i have forgotten to put the air vent plug back on, or the container is over filled. I did epoxy the Heck out of the drawer, so a little water has been no problem.

Oh and i love the paint the container! May have paint mine purple.
