Wouldn't an air mattress be better considering the weight and all?

That's why I keep asking if anyone knows the actual weight of the queen-sized Walmart mattress. Presently, I'm planning on using the Select Comfort (air mattress) off my bed in the house. It certainly won't weigh much, but it would be much less hassle to have a dedicated mattress in the trailer.

I dont remember the weight. We cut ours down in size to 47" X 75". We love it, but we think we should have gotten the 6" instead of the 8". How often do you hear that?

Well it would help with the leg room if we had the thinner mattress. It is almost a comfortable as our big bucks home mattress. What a steal at $230. The other great thing was there was no shipping charge.

FYI I think it is a little firmer than some people may be lead to think.

...I absolutely detest air mattresses which is one of the reasons I was attracted to tears in the first place was the ability to have a "real" mattress...the weight difference is not that great and if that difference in weight is going make a difference then you have problems that go beyond that difference(wheeew, too many differences)

I've tried (and have) a waterbed. I've tried air mattresses, and they are ok. I've tried memory foam and it is ok.... I went with knox foam with a memory foam topper in the tear.... air would be lighter, but I've never found one that appealed to me...

Our differences are what makes us interesting.

Just back from vacation and the box from Walmart lists no info on weight.

I tried air mattresses early on but found them to always need more air added. When I've tent camped in the past and would be staying at least a week I found my cots from LL Bean were the best, plus they doubled as guest beds when family would visit back home. They had some springs and a foam mattress with a nice cover...just like a sheet. Since I have a pick up truck they were no trouble packing.

When I car pool with someone and camp I would pack light and use a thermarest. Self inflating, 2", and they never trapped cold air like an air mattress would, very comfortable. I use my thermarest when I kayak and camp out of the back of my truck.

At the end of the camping season with the td I'll roll up the foam mattress, use my kayak straps to sinch it, and store it in a closet over the winter............and I'll be ready for more family to visit.

I bought an air mattrress on the request of my wife and found it usefull as a good floatation device during heavy storms!

We have a queen air matress we used in the tent, also have a 8" Walmart in the tear. I'll take the Walmart matress anytime. We still keep the air and tent for Kids or visitors that come along.
I think the foam weigh's about 25lbs but it's not coming out of the tear. That's one of the reasons I built it, So if we decide to go camping we can just throw some clothes and food in and don't have to pack anything else.

We tried an air mattress in our TTT at first but it was a tight fit and that sound of the rubber mattress rubbing on the sides every time we turned over kept us awake!

We now use two 4" foam mattresses (stacked) and sleep great!

go to Walmarts online store and it will list the shipping weight of the mattress.

We could always put the air mattress under the teardrop in case of flooding!!!

But we are using the 6" foam mattress from Walmart in this one, and it's incredibly comfortable.

Yesterday I got out for the first time in a long time. Someone took me to Costco and they had Queen size Memory foam and Micro fiber reversible mattresses, 4" thick. They cost $138.00.

It $199 (full) plus $47 for freight, for a memory foam topped mattress WITH a bag around it, that's not a bad deal! We don't have an Ikea near us so we ordered on-line.

You might want to try your local BIG LOTS. They had a great FUTON mattress there that was about 6-8 inches and had springs inside but it was flexible enough to roll up and put inside the camper. I even gave it a "test rest" and it seeemd super comfortable. We ended up using something else but this would definitely have been a great deal at $125!
