The Summer 2007 issue of Overland Journal magazine has a review of 12 volt portable refrigerators. Not for the faint of heart, these are expedition quality units that sell for $700-$1500.

Can you give us some of the highlights of the article?
What exact 3 units were tops and why?
What was the internal temps vrs. external temps for their tests?
What did they say in regards to power consumption?

Sure thing. It's quite a long article and very detailed, I'll give it a go.

Editors choice: National Luna NLR-40, 12-24 VDC, 120-220 VAC, average amps measured while cycling (80F outside, 28-32F inside) 1.75 amps.

Second choice: Waeco Cool-Freeze CF-40, 12-24 VDC, 120 VAC, average amps measured while cycling (80F outside, 28-32F inside) 2.75 amps.

other units tested: ARB MT 45-F AL, Engel MT45, FridgeFreeze 45-liter.

They used a Deka deep cycle AGM battery to power their test units.

there isn't, not that I know of.

Overland Journal is a new magazine, they are only on their second issue. The photography is fabulous and the articles are quite well written. Mostly nothing I would ever do, so fun to read about.
