Swedish Candles, these make a cool campfire. You cut you log from the top in a pie pattern (6 piece) within a few inches at the bottom. Give it a squirt of charcoal starter down the center and bingo.

Depending on log size it will burn for hours and burns in on itself. This log pictured was 15" diameter and a little over 3' tall.

Very cool.

I gotta try the Swedish Candle.

Last summer I had a fire going and found a hollow piece of log. I stood it upright on my fire and pretty soon flames were going out the top!

A guy stopped by and said, "Hey look ! The fire is going clear thru that log!"

today i tried to make a swedish candle. i used birch log for it. the log laid outside for about half a year. lighting it was/is a problem. i couldn't light it.

is it better to use different kind of wood?
did the log lay outside to long?
what is the best way to light it?

pour charcoal fluid in it and let it sit for 10 minutes or so to soak in, before it all evaporates, give it a quick squirt and light it up.
The wood probably isn't the issue. Willow and Gum are hard to burn, but birch shouldn't be an issue after seasoning for a year.
