I was sorting gear after our last outing. I have a heap of bent pegs. My inclination is to put them in the recycling but before I do does anyone have a great way of using them?

¿ may i safely assume TENT PEGS ?

if so STRAIGHTEN THEM

a hammer or rock and a firm surface('taint rocket surgery)

metal tent pegs/stakes are something that have always met rocks beneath the surface resulting the need for straightening

been whacking the little rascals into submission for way over 60 years and it is the rare one that refused to ultimately(hammer n anvil in the barn) behave

in the case of titanium and aluminium pegs cold bending can end up breaking them if repeated several times

if they break they break and then you can dispose of them in your chosen manner

a broken titanium peg costs less to replace than lunch from the $1 menu at the golden arch club

i always carry at least one extra ;-)

You can find bedframes in the trash. The angle iron of the rails make large unbendable pegs. A bit of work with a cutoff wheel or hacksaw and you have a peg to pound into hard ground that stands up to a hurricane.

I just use railroad tie nails a foot or so long. Never bent one yet and come out of the ground very easily with a claw hammer.
