Step -1: Modeling the concept

Yep you read that right... that's step negative 1.

Since I don't want to change the order of all the steps, and since there has been a request for the generic benroy in dxf format for you cad users out there, I've posted the generic benroy dxf file that you can download, and import into your cad program.

Let me know what you come up with...

right click this link and save it to your desktop! :D

I downloaded it and when I open it in CadStdLite I get a square with a plus sign in the middle.

I just downloaded it and imported it into turbocad 11 professional... it works...

The cad program you use should support Autocad 2000 dxf files in 3d.

I use Turbocad professional which supports autocad 2000 dxf files in 3d. The file I uploaded is definitely a 3d file... Any good 3d program should support it...

Of course, you could always download the trial turbocad professional 11 from turbocad.com and use it free for 15 or 30 days... I can't remember which.

And I'd be interested to hear what else is out there that reads this file without a problem...

Ken,

Were you able to shade it in your version of Autocad?

Well now, wait a sec... if all you want to do is see the thing in 3d... you can use cortona, and load this image... Be sure to click on the Study button to keep the scene from going out of control!

and here is a version with the side removed...

BTW, this works better in Explorer than it does in Firefox....

MIke...

P.S. Here is how to load cortona...
all you need to view these files is a free Internet Explorer plugin called "Cortona". You can get it here... http://www.parallelgraphics.com/products/cortona/

Yes I did... both of the links now use textured plywood instead of white. But you have to use Internet explorer to see it...

Mike,

3D file works OK with AutoCAD LT 2000. :)

Personally I like 2D drawings better. They are easier. I guess I'm just this side of paper! :R
