The photo above is my trailer that I purchased from a 15y.o. boy who put it together using all the wrong hardware and tools. Anyway, it's mine now and I intend to use it.

I intend to build a semi-standy that is 5'x8'. The axle is below the springs.
Please refer to the amidship photo. The axle is currently situated exactly 1/2 the distance between forward and aft of the trailer. The back of the wheel lies about 37.5" from the rear.
FIRST QUESTION: Should the axle be moved back?
I might mention that my build is not exactly a tear drop shape, but rather a modified shed roof style with the tongue end (forward) being about 4.5' tall and the after end (back where the door will be) will be about 5.5' tall. All built ins will be as close to center of gravity as possible, with perhaps a little more weight on the rear end.
SECOND QUESTION:
I have see many examples of the trailer cross bars being moved around or eliminated entirely. The most common I have seen is removing the cross bar that is directly or almost directly over the axle. Is there a reason for that? Should I remove the cross bar that is pictured just to the right of the axle in the photo?
THIRD QUESTION:
Please see the photo of the close of the wheel and the bracket above the wheel. What is that bracket? Do I need that? Can I remove it without the trailer coming apart at the seams (as I am about to do)?
I want to post a build page, but I think I should at the very least buy some wood first! Thanks to everyone on this site and hope to get some answers to my boneheaded questions.
