Thanks Guys! Mtn Don, if you can measure next week, that would be great. My hope is to not have to re drill or move anything if possible. Larry, I could not even get that info from Northern Tool tech support. You are a super Ninja!

Woodbutcher wrote:HELP PLEASE!!! Can one of you guys with the Northern tool trailer give me a measurement from the front of the 8" side back to the center of the axle. I have a project I want to do and that is the frame I am considering. But no where on the website does it give the dimension. Also how much clearance is there between the tire and the frame. Can I hide the frame with a 3/4" board with enough clearance that the tire won't rub.

My 5X8 NT is about two years old but it appears to be identical to the one that is now selling under the Ironton name. The distance from the front of the frame to the axle centerline is 54". I left the axle in its stock location and I achieve tongue weight by loading my camping gear to the front of the cabin. I have upgraded my tires to 175-70R13 but I had 2 1/16" of clearance with the stock 5.30X12 tires that came with the trailer. I now have 1 1/8" with the 13" tires so there is plenty of room to bring a 3/4" board down over the frame. Hope this helps.

It could be the axle is just a tad bit shorter on the new ironton trailer vs the older model. The NT website said the clearance between the tire and the frame is 1.47 inches and Larry (les45) said his clearance on the older model is 2 1/16 inch. That's a difference of almost 3/4 inch. There could be other small variations too that we don't know about yet.

Good point, I will do my figuring using the smaller measurement to be safe.
