HF 1720# - Lug Spacing

Postby M C Toyer » Tue Jan 07, 2014 12:52 am

I'm sure this has been asked and answered before but I haven't been able to find the post(s).

What is the lug spacing on the 1720# Harbor Freight Super Duty 48x96 trailer with the 5 lug 12" wheels?

4, 1/2 X 5 is what the spacing is called.

If you want to get new (maybe Larger) wheels for your trailer DON'T tell them you want Trailer wheels! They will tell you they don't have trailer wheels or they will try to sell you the same thing you already have.

A wheel chart may not help as there are 2 factors to be considered. 1). is bolt pattern and 2). is back spacing (will they hit the frame)

Tell them you need wheels for a 1984 Ford Ranger. They will fit and they will have them in an array of styles.

What size tires can I put on those '84 Ford Ranger wheels and not have them hit? I want to pump up my wheel/tire combination for offroad use.

If you stick with a stock tire for the 84 Ranger you won't go wrong.

I've done it several times. That rim (and its proper tire) for that vehicle (84 Ranger) clears the frame with about 1, 3/8" gap.

There are several other vehicles that take the same rim & tire, but I know this one works.

DON'T go by bolt pattern charts, they won't give you the wheel back set. Just the bolt pattern.
