4 on 4.5 Hubs for Axle with 25mm (1") spindles

Postby MLG58 » Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:35 pm

I am at the beginning stage of building a teardrop trailer and one of my two tow vehichles is a 74 MGB GT with 14" Rostyle Wheels. I'd like to use the same 14' wheels on the trailer (donor is HF 90154 trailer w 4 on 4 hubs) ; however, I have come up empty googling "axle hub 4 on 4.5 bolt" etc to source replacement hubs for the supplied axle w 25mm (1in) spindles.

Any suggestions on how I can accomplish my goal of using the same wheels as the MG? Alternatively, I would consider 13" Rostyle wheels that came on the MG Midget.

One option is have a machine shop re-drill your HF hubs to fit the MG wheels.

Remember the offset or backspacing may be a factor.

Wheel Offset - The distance between the wheel centerline and the mounting pad.
Backspace - The distance between the mounting pad and the outer most part of the wheel's drum side.

Trailer hubs are usually made for zero offset. Running wheels that vary much from the hub design may not only cause clearance problems but may also overload an inner or outer bearing.

Q: If you make the trailer accept the current TV what happens when a new TV comes along? Chances are the new one will be different.

Just food food thought.

Thanks for the insights and suggestions I ordered the 25mm hubs from red trailers.com and plan to use the 13" 4 on 4 wheel for the midget via adapter plates
