adding width

Postby TardisBuild » Mon Jun 05, 2023 4:32 pm

We want to make the trailer so that the body of the trailer is over the wheels. Right now they are on the outside of the body, we need to add 10 inches on each side, the frame is made out of 2x2 square tubing. Husband thinks we can cut some C-channel and weld it on with the smooth side up. We do have a friend that welds. Here is the frame. Thanks for any advice.

I disagree.....stick with the 2X2 box tubing, of the same thickness. Just fab and weld some "wings" on both sides, fore and aft of your tires. While you're at it, wled in a wheel well framework over the tires.

Probably want to make sure you do it in such a way you can still change a tire without problems. (But that's obvious, I guess!)
