HF frame/axle with larger Tires

Postby Loader » Sat Aug 04, 2007 7:20 am

With all the recent talk of how to install larger tires on the HF frames, it made me surf a little. I found some 4 lug 13" tires, would those work?

It states:

Tire Dimensions: B78 x 13in., ST175/80D13
Load Range/Capacity: B/1100 Lbs.
Tire O.D.: 24in.

As compared to the standard HF wheel/tire

Lug holes: 4, 0.585'' diameter
Axle diameter: 2-1/2''
Rim: 12'' x 5''
Weight: 18-3/4 lbs.

bolt pattern would be fine but you may have clearance issues with the width of the tire and the frame of the trailer.
Check your clearance on your frame and then see how wide the tire is.
Maybe do a comparison of the width of the 12 inch tire vs the 13 inch tire.

Neither of those websites give you any of the same measurements. The Northern wheel gives you tire size but not the bolt pattern, the HF wheel gives you the bolt pattern but not the tire size. It's hard to make a direct comparison without all the info. I'vee seen Northern Tool stores up North there. Maybe you could buy one to see how it will fit (if it does fit) and return it if it doesn't work out.

I was thinking of that Rocky. That store is just done the road, been there a few times. I'm not in a real hurry to change tires, the 12" seem ok, heard good things on them from others (Dave and Cindy). Just curious.

Do 4 bolt trailer wheels come with different bolt spacing?

If the 12" rim is really 5" wide, the tire must be significantly wider than that, and likely close to the 175mm of the 13" tire... the clearance in width might not be an issue, but is worth checking if you can find the real tire size.
