finished trailer weight?

Postby Ron Dickey » Wed Sep 05, 2007 11:14 pm

I know I should do this as a poll.... but I have no idea as to how much a TD or TTT weigh.
I know that just my floor weighted alot and the frame ain't lite.

So how much does yours weigh or what is the average.

I remember Andrew in his site there is a calculation. and somewhere I have an old scale. most are digital and cost to much to experiment with.

I am getting ready to fill out the DMV papers for my triler and have know idea as to what these things weigh.

Ron You can get the trailer to a certified truck scales it could be weighed. If you can load on a flat bed "LowBoy trailer" and take it to be weighed that way to be LEGAL. The other way is fulcrum and scale method I think Andrew mentioned about using a board ramp and scale to measure approx. weight.

Ron, a good average would fall between 800 and 1200 #'s...many are lighter and some or MUCH heavier...there are just too many variables to state a weight with thoughts of accuracy.....

I flipped my "Stacker" up on end, balanced it on the bathroom scale and it weighed a taste just under 250 lbs. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Hi, Ron:

I am told that the CHP (Calif. Hwy Patrol) encourages you to take your trailer to the truck weigh stations to have it weighed. Since I'm still in the planning stages, I haven't been there yet; but, I'll bet they would even be happy to inspect and advise. I would phone the CHP to find the nearest weigh station and ask them.

Another idea is to take it to a landfill that has weigh scales (many do) and they may be willing to accomodate you.

I had a neighbor who worked at the CHP weigh stations at one time and he said they want people to weigh their trailers for safety's sake. (I don't know about other states, only California.)

I don't know, but I dropped the wood part on my hand, which was between the wood and the steel trailer, the other day. It's dang heavy!

I had to get my trailer weighed because I tagged it as a travel trailer instead of a utility trailer. Ready to load, it came in at 1150lbs. That is everything except for food and bedding, clothes, supplies.

They're not states, but in both Alberta and British Columbia any vehicle is welcome to weigh at no charge at the government run highway scales.

foam trailer weight

Postby coal_burner » Wed Oct 03, 2007 8:30 am

I just tagged my 5' x 9' foam and fiberglass popup and it weighed 320 lbs.
With the bed, refrigerator, stove, sink, microvave, inverter, air conditioner, and batteries, I'm hopeing to stay under 800 LBS.
