Hey guys,

I stumbled onto your topic and thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth, if thats ok?

In my experience the low profile side brackets work the best. We use a lot of the heavier 6k plus dexter's and the low profile side bracket gives us a ton of variability in squaring the axle to the frame.

We actually build a modified version of the bracket with slotted holes in it. Most trailer mfg's, us included, build axle and frame sections ahead of time. When an order is placed, several frame sections, one of which is the axle assembly, all come together on the line. Although this allows us to be fast, we can't be sure that the axles are square at the sub-assembly level. Plus we want as much corrosion protection finished at the sub-assembly level and not on the line. Hense the slotted holes in our modified bracket.
After axle alignment and final bolting of the axles, we do in fact add about a 1/2 - 3/4 inch weld to keep the bolts from ever slipping and causing the axle to become un-aligned!

Bottom line, for a custom built 1 at a time trailer the weld-on's are the best bet.

Let me know if you need help with ride height and specing the axles from dexter.

Thanks
