4'x6.5' Truck bed -> Trailer -> Mini Camper.

Postby WarHippie » Thu Sep 11, 2008 9:11 am

I need to convert an old truck bed trailer into a tiny camper, but it needs to be extremely lightweight, and super short(about 4' tall). I can rip off the old bed, if I have to.

It doesn't need electricity, plumbing, toilet, anything.. essentially just a bed/storage on wheels, but I need to be able to sleep in it in 30 degree weather comfortably. Any help?

I've a decent supply of plywood, I've got some pink housing insulation.. and some scrap wood.

I don't care if it looks like crap.. as long as i live.

thanks.. I'll post pictures of the old truck bed trailer later..

If you don't make a kitchen 6.5 feet is long enough to put a double bed in there. Should be real light.

'Extremely lightweight' and starting with a pickup trailer bed are two polar opposite positions. Unless you want to put half a ton of supplies in the 'bed' of your teardrop, dump the pickup bed and begin from scratch

I don't know how to find it but I have seen a picture of a tear type camper built on a Toyota Tocama frame that was really nice. They didn't use the bed on the build. Maybe one of the forum members will know where to find that post and post it. Sounds like a fun build.
