What size trailer for a 5x10 BenRoy"

Folks,

A little confused - am planning a 5x10 BenRoy.

What size trailer??? The wheels will be on the outside. Will have a tongue box for AC. The batteries will be slung under the trailer just behind the axle.

Ok, think I've found the answer - a 5x10 trailer???

Have reviewed several different styles (Cub, Rounded Weekender) and these seem to use a bit smaller trailer then the overall length.

Am I right on this??

I think you are doing the right thing in thinking ahead about your trailer dimensions. I didn't think it through, so the one I had welded for me is now going to have to be re-fabricated.

The first thing to think about is do you want your sidewalls and front and galley rear to cover over the frame to conceal it or do you want you want everthing to be flush (sitting on top of the frame) with the frame exposed.

The next thing to think about is how much if any do you want the rear of the teardrop "box" to overhang or extend past of the frame. Also, the same for the front - how much of the tongue do you want to overhang with the teardrop box.

In the generic Benroy plans (5' x 8') the trailer is 58" wide. This allows for the sidewalls (3/4" each) to overhang the edges of the frame and allow a 1/4" gap on each side. The length of the main platform of the trailer was 96" so the front and galley rear sat flush with the frame. (A trim strip was added to each end later.)

My latest is 5'4" x 10' and it is on a 5x8 trailer. Notice the tongue was replaced and extended and the build is cantalievered 2' forward of the trailer deck

That will turn some heads going down the road! What are you going to use on the sides, and especially on the roof?
BTW- With a "profile" like that, you should be able to think of a bunch of great names for it............
