HF 90154 rigid assembly instructions needed

Ask questions about Harbor Freight trailers, or questions about building your own...

I got mine finished today. I am sure you could extend it, but when you lay it out and look at it I am not sure you would want to.

And to answer my previous question, drilling the holes were easy. I got a $7 bit from Ace, cordless drill and some Wd40. It did not "smoke" until the end of each drill.
I made 8 holes with no problems. Paint is drying tonight and then I am ready to build a floor!!!

Newman or Twilight
When you put your middle sections along the side to bolt in. Did you have to cut or move the other 2 cross sections? I tried putting mine together tonight and the 2 cross members either need to be cut or the other 2 that are 1 in from the ends need to be moved.

One thing to point out, is that my trailer is the smaller 1200# trailer from HF not the 1800#
(edit:after I hit the submit key I saw the subject. Newman yours is the lighter trailer and Twilight it looks like you have the larger)

Now I'm faced with the questions.
1. should I cut them
2. just extend the trailer the approx. 5 inches that I would have to cut off?
3. If I cut them. I could just cut 1 in half and use that. I think that would give enough coverage to join the front and rear. I could use the other steel for a number of things. ie. to mount the rear stablizer legs.

This is what I ended up doing. I cut 3" off of the middle cross members that then fit "into" the side rails. I am not moving axle, and was able to get 2 of the 5 holes to match up. So I then had to drill 3 holes in each inserted rail to make everything work. I drilled one hole at a time on one side, and remounted each time to match up the holes before marking the place to drill for the next hole. On the other side, with all of my experience, I just marked all 3 holes at once and drilled. My experience was not so good and I had to enlarge 2 of the 3 holes. Take your time and drill one hole at a time

Ok, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks. I just went and looked at it in the garage. I was trying to figure out the magic of fitting that in there.

I'm still on the fence about moving the axle back, myself.

I just saw the other thread about to move or not to move. I'll have to call a local steel guy and see about getting a quote for a piece of that 2" steel to extend the tongue. I'll have to search for Harvey's Tongue mods and see if the dimensions of that steel are listed somewhere. 2x2x1/8 maybe?
