Brakes for a HF 8x4 ?

Postby CompoSimmonite » Tue Jun 08, 2010 6:22 am

I'm in the UK where the HF type folding trailer is rare (mine was sold by Northern Tools but is identical to the HF version other than hubs which take UK 4x4" trailer wheels).
My driveway is sloping and I need some sort of brakes for easing hitching, unhitching and manovering.
At present I use chocks under the wheels but a PIA if by myself so am looking into options of brakes. Any such brakes would be for "off road" use only and therefore not activated by the towing vehicle.
We don't have electric brakes over here but I suppose I could import them and use a small battery.
Anyone already fitted brakes, of any type, to an original HF 8x4 axle ?

Thanks.

...to fit brakes to an HF trailer, you will probably havvta replace the entire axle assembly............ 8)
...I have come to believe that, conflict resolution, through violence, is never acceptable.....................mj

if the drive way slopes towards your car, put rope a long section of rope on the chocks going up to the tong, so you can pull the chocks from the front of the trailer.

If you loop the rope around the jack handle, you will not forget to remove them.
