This is my first build of a trailer as well as a tear. I have the ideas just need to get started. I do have access to welding/cutting equipment. I am planning on a Campster12 build. I currently have a small TT than I can scavenge parts from if needed. The frame is heavy feeling 3x2 main frame with fabricated cross pieces, axle is a sprung AO configuration with only 48" hanger to hanger(need 60"). I am not sure on the hub to hub dimension.
In the plans for the C12 Grant specs 2.5x1.5 14ga tubing for the rear sections of frame. I can buy 2x2 11ga for about 35ยข/lb. I am sure that I would be better off weight wise to use the 2x2 but would it be strong enough? Should I look for a different size? Would 2x2 11ga work for everything except the tongue? 2.5x2.5 11ga for the tongue.
Can my axle(round tubing) be widened to make it work or should I look for another option? The axle on my trailer seems well built, has a 5x4.5 bolt pattern and came with 14" wheels.
