Looking for a 5x10 trailer kit

Postby Skruddgemire » Mon Jul 30, 2012 5:41 am

I've found tons of 5x8's out there as well as 4x8's. And they're pretty reasonable.

But when I want to add on another 2 feet to get a 5x10...wham! The price jumps dramatically. Four digits dramatically.

So does anyone know of any good places for a reasonable 5x10 trailer frame? Either that or can point me to plans to make one that doesn't require a welder?

You might look around for a boat trailer. They generally have a longer tongue than a flatbed trailer. This feature will allow you to cantaliver the body forward 2 to 3 feet and you can let the rear run a foot longer than the frame as well.

In these pictures you see there is no floor installed yet on my barn it is 5x10 on this 5x8 flatbed frame.

I did weld in an extended tongue and later found need to reinforce it.

What is the tongue length you are finding for the 5x8. you can go forward a foor and back a foot and attaching the walls to the rear overhang you can have a minume of 700 lbs of gear before having issues.

My rule of thumb and MHO is that you take the half the distance plus 6 inches and that is the shortest your tongue should be.
