TIres are scrubbing!

My harbor freight trailer tires are scrubbing . I have about 1000 mile on it now and it pulls and performs excellent. I just noticed that the tires are showing wear, both tires on the center rib. I probably have to much air but my trailer is light. 600 lbs maybe. The wear is slight and miles per year will be low but it still bugs me. Any thoughts?

You can use the formula recently posted, or use some chalk to mark a line across the tread.
When the chalk all wears off evenly, the pressure is just right.

They were at the max 60 lbs. I will lower the pres and report back. Thanks.

I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE UNIT DANCING AT 65+ MPH......

It would sway side to side and was unnerving enough that I would slow to minimize the sway. This was scrubbing the tires heavily.

I later added 18" to the tongue and this redistributed the weigh in such a manner that the dance was eliminated. I think a portion of it was the flex in the tongue. By adding a 2x2 3/16" wall center beam, it stiffened the tongue to the point the flex was also eliminated.

P.S. Duro tire warranty is null and void if tire pressure indicated on casing is not followed.

When you built the trailer, did you flip the axle and hang it on top of the springs to lower the ride height? If so.....not sure how the hf axles are, but my dexter axle has a slight curve in it causing the camber of the wheels to be neutral when loaded. If the axle is flipped upside down, a load will cause significant negative camber and strange tire wear. To get around that, you have to weld new perches on the axle to hang it right side up.

Again not sure if the hf axle is that way or if you even did change it from stock....just throwing that out there. I know a lot of folks do lower the frame in that manner. I did on my last trailer.
