Northern 5x8 mounting springs

Postby gulfcoast21 » Thu Sep 13, 2012 7:43 pm

My question is..can you reverse mount the springs on an axle. This would put the axle on top of the lower springs with the u-bolts reversed.
My reason for wanting to do this is to lower the deck height on the trailer. I would like to build a teardrop with as much height inside as possible and still get it to clear the garage door?
I asked this question to Northern and the answer I got was that it would void the warranty but not reason why it could not be done.
Thanks

Do not see any reason why not either and long as axle does not bump frame when suspension is compresses all the way....

Thanks....that was my thinking exactly. The wife is just under 5'4". If I can bulid one where she can stand up we will all be happy. She has some problems from a head on collision back in 2000 that still causes her problems.

Thanks

I just did that very same thing on that very same trailer. I think it looks so much better. Matches the ride height of my Impala and is easier for my wife to exit. I have already road tested it and there is no change in how it pulls. I had a 53 Chev pickup with the rear differential mounted the same way.

Thanks...I was hoping to hear from someone who had already tried it. Off hand do you know how much it lowers the deck?

It is approximately 3 inches but gives it a great look. It looks much more custom and less like it came out of a box.

Check your axle to see if it is cambered before turning it over. I did the same thing and my wheels tipped in towards the body. Bought another set of spring pads at TSC and welded them on the opposite side to correct this.
