An All Eu Approved Tear Chassis

Postby Classic Finn » Wed Oct 20, 2010 11:07 am

Even though Im not on this forum much anymore there is a lot going behind the scenes.

After long beauracratic go around & design looks like weve got a tear chassis that will be approved by all countries of the EU - Including ones that have not ratified all vehicle and trailer laws of the EU such as ours.
Thumbs up.. :worship: Its been persistence, aggravation and setbacks but the end line is positive.

A well built and lightweight chassis made in the EU for the EU. Above all its all built from EU inspected & approved parts. Including lighting.
Such as Knott, Al-ko and the list goes on. This also has torsion axles.

The tires are 185 70R 13 ,s. Just right size in our opinion.

Here are few pics. :D

Wow that is a complicated looking hitch. Is that green cylindrical thing on the front some type of indicator to let you know the ball is in?

Hello California and Greetings from Finland. Nice to hear from you. The hitch is quite simple. With no complication at all to install. ;)

Yes that shows that the ball is in all the way. Sort of an easy safety device. Notice that the frame has no welding on it. Brackets are bolted.

Wishing you and your family our best from the Far North.

Congrats Heikki.

I know you've been working on this for a while now. Looks great, what was the final weight on it?

Even though we are in the EU all laws are still not the same as far as trailer certification in these countries as far as build or construction. Laws still vary from country to country within the EU.

Scandinavia has some of the strictest laws in towing, construction and all else as compared to mainland europe.

One of the most pain in the behind has been the towbar, which here it cannot be welded onto the frame anywhere as it was years ago. This came into effect on January 1st of 2007. Also lighting installation has to be seperately inspected by an authorized EU Inspector. This cannot be inspected by the normal inspection officials here. :?

I dont like it but what can we do.. laws are laws. even though some are of the idiotic kind. But anyways these have been overcome.. as I said long ago that we will find a way and finally we have. ;)

Mating the Kits?

Hello there. Which project?  We are working on the Kits as well as getting done with this beauracracy of having these tears certified meaning the ones for the market.

The rest is and will be easy comapared to dealing with the chassis issues.

We,ll see what is next. ;)

Hi Shaun back to you on the chassis. It is 123 kilograms. :) Or its 270 lbs.

Also Im already thinking it can still be lighter in weight. We,ll see. But its the axle, wheels and tires that give it most of the weight on this which of course is logical. ;)
