Since this is the 12" 1740# HF trailer, the tire top sits about 1.5" above the top of the frame...so I can't just go straight across flat like Steve did with his Puffin. If I use a 2x4 to frame the floor, I would clear the tire with my decking by about 2".

Do you have any problem being able to change the tire? It looks like the bottom (2x4?) of your floor frame is below the top of the tire. Unless you came far enough to allow the tire to clear the studs, would it get jammed up?
In that case I would defintely remove a leaf or maybe even two from the springs for use in a lightweight tear - The suspension sounds way too stiff for a light trailer and it may bounce a lot more than you would likeFreebird wrote:The HF HD trailer will easily take an 1,800 pound load without deflecting the springs even 1 inch!!!!!!
