Wheel wells on the inside

On my "over the wheel" frame build I tried something different. Instead of adding the cross struts on top of the frame.

I took 2X2X3/16 angle and notched it over the main rails.

And welded it on all 3 sides. This kept the frame very thin (3")

But every good idea has a drawback...it made my wheel wells taller. Which really didn't make any difference in a stand up trailer.

I did not flip my axle so my wheel wells are quite small. I lined them with aluminum flashing to give them more mechanical protection from debris.

Oak,

Like mentioned, the wheel wells will get in the way unless you build above them.

Here's an example of where the bed is inbetween the wheel wells. if your feet don't need as much room as your shoulders, you can get away with this...
