I would think that even if you already had the old frame you would have a fair amount of time into making it right for a TD. You also would have replacement parts, wheels tires extra steel, that may out weigh the "savings" of a used frame.

I bought a an old Shasta Compact for parts to use in building a new TTT, in my case I got it for $400 off eBay, and in addition to a frame I got windows, stove, heater, icebox, and lights and wiring. Mine is in good enough shape that I am using it for a year before I tear it down.

The Compact frame is fairly light - 3 inch channel with 4 1.5 x 2 angle cross braces that run under the channel and support 4 - 1.5 x 3 wood longitudal beams supporting a 1/2" plywood floor.

I have mentioned this before, But I will do it again, I found my frame sitting in a field under an old turd of a camp trailer, The property owner gave it to me just to get rid of it. It cost me about $25 or $40 in dump fees to get rid of the old shell. since then I found another in a field that the owner just wants to give away. (my next tear frame!) I got my icebox out of the first one, some animals had been living in it but after a quick sandblast, some primer and paint I had a Like new ice box.
I got a bunch of other parts as well. So look around for an old junker and offer to haul it off for free. Aaron

Can't beat those sorts of deals . . . . but if you have to pay very much for it, you may be better off building from scratch

You never know exactly what you'll find under a 20 or 30 year old travel trailer and it could be nothing usable - No big deal if you towed it home for free . . . . something else all together if you paid a few hundred for it
