I have people calling me all the time to custom build trailers when they could save a TON of money by recycling. My initial TD I'm starting next weekend is going to be an experiment since my "dream TD is a 5x11 and I'm not ready for that one yet, I'm using an old "Haulin A$$" trailer sold through the big blue box store. I bought it last month for $50 because it had a bent tongue tube. YUP, I'll take that off your hands! And so a build will begin!

I spent $360 for a Carry-on no floor trailer from Tractor Supply, while I think it is a much better trailer than Harbor Freight due to it being made of angle iron welded together instead of stamped thin gauge steel, and most of all because it comes with a very solid Dexter axle. I had to figure out how to make a 5' wide TD on a 4' wide trailer.
Last year I had two tent trailers given to me, the only expense was gas and time dragging them home. one I plan on camping in if it really just needs fabric like the giver stated. The other I tore down to the frame, burned the wood, saved all the good bits, scrapped the un-needed metal bits, and then built an excellent utility trailer on the frame. The frame is already 5' wide, has an torflex axle and could make a great 10' long TD with no modification to it. I figure if the PUP could live with a floor of OSB with people walking on it, and a much heavier trailer on it than I plan to build, it is perfectly suited for a TD.
oh actually the PUP's cost me a little more... new tires.
