5' x8' no floor trailer at Northern tool for $299.00

Ask questions about Harbor Freight trailers, or questions about building your own...

It may be flexible, but once you bolt a rigid object like a tear on top of it, it won't be - Perfect choice for a lightweight tear. Looks like there is an extra leaf in the spring you can remove as well

Too bad we don't have any Northern stores anywhere here in the deep south - For us, it's Harbor Freight or nothing. I've bought lots of stuff from Northern even a woodstove but the truck freight is a killer down here

Hi, I am torn between this trailer and the red trailers 5x8, but if I get this one for $300 I can also buy some wood to start the build sooner. How much more modification is there on the Northern Tool one compared to the Red Trailers one? Is it harder? I still have to reposition the axle on either one, right?

Also, what size wheels does the NT&E trailer have?

Thanx for any insight, I just want to do this right the first time.

the northern trailer has 12 inch wheels........5 bolt by 4-1/2" pattern makes it easy to put larger tires on it if you want. You would have the clearance as well between the wheel and the frame.
The frame is all welded except the tongue so moving the axle would involve grinding off the spring hangers and re welding. not fun.
dont really know if anyone ever moved the axle on that trailer. My 4 x 8 rimple balanced fine without moving it.
May depend alot on what you plan to build like the size and whether you plan on a tongue box or not.

Anyone ever felt the need to move the axle on either the TSC or Northern trailer?

Chris:

We built a 5X8 Cubby on the TSC (Carry-on) trailer. Did not have to move the axle. If I remember correctly the center of the axle is 32" from the rear and it worked just fine.

We have towed the trailer over 3000 mile to date. No problems.

You can look at my photos under "larryl"

I have a 4x6 trailer made by the same company, I spung over the axle to make it a lil more level with the Jeeps. It's super easy just take one wheel and the ubolts off, slide the axle out and bolt it back on under the springs. Instant 4" lift for FREE. :D
