HF trailer, undoing the folding bits?

Postby nikwax » Sun Jul 29, 2007 9:43 pm

I just put my HF trailer together yesterday, all is well, now to undo the folding bits. Can I:

- remove the hinge, and bolt the two center rails together? If the hinge is removed, does it need to be replaced with a plate to join the side rails together? I've read about removing the center rails and bolting them into the side rails as well.

- remove the j pins from the tongue and replace them with bolts? This one seems like a no brainer but I thought I'd double check.

answer to first question: why yes, all you need to do is remove the hinge, bolt the two sections together at the junction, and bolt the side rails to the suspension carrier, all using existing holes.

nice trailer :)

I cut a 1/8 steel strap to go on the outside of the frame just for a little more strength.

Having a welder run a quick bead over the joint would be a very good idea too

I put the cross pieces inside the side rails to make the folding trailer frame a rigid frame.

Looks like you could even make the trailer longer real easy doing it that way. Good idea and would be very strong.

Damn. I should have done that.

Maybe I will this weekend and make a larger dropped floor.
