TSC trailer tongue bracing after build?

Postby DougH » Sun Dec 02, 2007 5:45 pm

I built my trailer on a Tractor Supply 4x 8 frame. Now that I'm nearly finished do you think its too late to get some additional bracing welded on to support the tongue? Can they do this with the trailer cabin already built?

i don't see why it would be a problem. just use some splater paper or we rags near the arc and hot metal if you get too close to the wood and foam. should work.
what mods did you do to your tsc trailer frame to make it in to a teardrop? that is the project i have lined up and i am just going to wing it. i think it is going to be very a typical. first thing is to try and find better, taller wheels and tires. any hints?

Doug, this tough...if you have any burnable materials in contact with the frame in the area of the welds it WILL burn...all you can do is weld a little at a time and thenput the fire out quickly...of course then you just might cause a weak weld...you could probably weld the braces on the tongue and then bolt them to the frame........

Looking at your trailer... I don't think it would be too hard to weld a couple angled tube braces from the tongue back to the second crossmember? ...and where they would cross the front crossmember too. Since they would be down below the main frame, I don't see any problem other than the fun of getting to the welds from underneith the rig. I guess you could just tilt the whole thing back and go for it? A mig rig shouldn't get things too hot... But I would sure keep the water hose handy!

Jack's idea of bolting the part under the tear may be the best (as in safer) way to go...

Doug
Do not forget about your wiring harness for your lights.

And in reguards to better tires and rims, Take the tire & rim that came with your trailer down to a local tire shop like discount tire to match it up,(proper bolt pattern) if you go a bigger rim or tire be sure you have enough clearance between fender & tire you may need to adjust your fenders and do not forget to make sure that the center of rim has the depth you need so it dose not rub on the side of your trailer,& remember that a bigger tire will overhang the sides of your rims more so be sure to take that into acount, I hope that this makes scense to you. If not let me know.

I went to bigger tires and rims on my last build in which you can see within my Teardrop construction pages on my website. I might be selling my black Teardrdop after this weekends camping trip, Starting a new build.

Good luck on your build.
