Building a trailer from NT blueprints?

Postby jworster » Fri Mar 28, 2008 2:46 pm

Hi all :D

Please forgive me for not really having a clue about terminology here... I think I'm talking about the chassis, but I'm not sure

I was just checking out Northern Tools website looking at their trailers and I saw a link for blueprints. They have blueprints for the exact trailer we want (5' X 10') and it's "no welding"! However, the thought of building our own trailer is daunting! Has anyone used the NT's blueprints or built their own trailer from scratch?

This is the link for the blueprints:

Thanks :)

Jen,

Those plans are available on the web for free, or something very close to those.

And we also have some trailer plans here... just look at the trailer tutorial up there in the menu...

One caution though... the trailer as shown, gets some of it's strength from the sides, which you won't be adding.

However, once you get your torsion box on it, it should be plenty strong.

However I'm sure some of the other guys will be along to help us out with their 2 cents worth! :D

Mike...

P.S. Also be sure to check out the Vintage Plans, and the Generic Benroy Plans which are free, and also up there in the menu...
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

Build a bolt together frame from scratch????? It would be easier to learn how to weld. The thought of drilling all those holes gives my arms and other body parts pains. But can be done and you would not have to invest in welding equipment. Get very good drill bits and a good drill. Drills do make a difference. Even if they are rated at the same RPM and power. And some cutting fluid. If you do build a bolt together frame I would also put some lock tight on those bolts on finale assembly. Some of those bolts may not be accessable after the cabin is on. Just some thoughts. Can be done. But as I can weld and have the equipment, for myself I would not even consider it. And I also have the drilling equipment to do a bolt together.
