Arlene?, I'm pretty sure the Generic plans have a chassis plan in them. I could be wrong, though, it's been known to happen once or twice before ;)

They do,but I don't like, the wimpie tires on the RedTrailer,12". I think 14" tires would more be robust and look nicer. Yes the name is Arlene

You can get at least 13" tires on the Red Trailers, I belive. Call them and they may even be able to put 14" on for you.

Arlene, what size trailer do you want to build?

A local welder built a frame according to my plans last fall for $500 in materials and labor. I supplied the Dexter axle and the wheels and tires.

It has 2"x2"x1/8" tubing with mitered corners for the outside of the frame (could have used lighter 14 gage). About every 2 ft. it has 2"x2"x1/8" angle cross pieces planned so they match joints in the plywood floor. The 48" long A-frame tongue is made from 2"x3"x1/8" rectangular tube - it seemed to be the strongest, still fairly light weight, tongue material for a 5 ft. by 10 ft. trailer that may weigh 1500-1700 lb. when it's full loaded. There are gussets in each corner for rigidity and for bolting the floor to the frame.

The frame is 61" wide by 117" long. With 14" tires and a 22 degree down angle torsion axle it has about 17" of ground clearance below the frame which is 2-3" more than I wanted/needed. Overall, I'm real pleased with my trailer frame.
Hope this helps your planning a little. :)

The Harbor Freight 1740# trailer comes with 5 bolt hubs on a 4.5 inch circle and you can use just about any size wheels and tires you like - I have 15 inch Mazda wheels on mine but I've also used 13 inch wheels on it as well

It's regularly $399 but is frequently on sale for $299 and if you use a 15% coupon when it's on sale, you get it for about $255 - Very good value at that price :D
