Dewalt Portable Band Saw Clearance $119

Postby Carter » Sat May 23, 2009 6:35 pm

For the members that build frames. Lowes has the Dewalt D28770 6 amp portable band saw on clearance for $119, prior price $299. Dewalt is replacing it with a 10 amp version but when I tested one today it did very well on the size stock we would use for small trailer frames. I've never seen the worm drive DeWalt but have used the direct drive version. The comparison test that you linked compared the worm drive DeWalt to the direct drive Porter Cable. I'm sure the worm drive versions of both tools would have been more closely matched. I did not like the direct drive DeWalt we used at work, not so much because of performance, just that it was hard to fit into some tight places to make a cut with that motor sticking straight up. When I decided to buy my own Porta Band I went with the original worm drive Porter Cable and have not regretted that decision.

The DeWalt worm drive looks like a good saw and you cannot beat that sale price, if I needed one I would have headed to Lowe's before taking time to post this.

Larwyn,
I'm sure they all have their pro's and con's. There is probably better saws but it would be tough to find a better price. It was funny, I had looked at them online yesterday morning and decided I didn't need one for $300. I was at Lowe's for something else and stumbled across the clearance priced ones. Couldn't pass it up.

I had to use the one we have at work, after using it I decided that I wouldn't get one. It is really to use for us South Paws.
