5x8 Bolt together??

Postby Stonedog » Mon Nov 02, 2009 8:56 pm

My search-fu is weak tonite!

I really want a 5x8......can I build one on my own without having to weld it?

Meaning can I put together my own bolt together kit?

I have a drill press so I can make nice neat strait holes for the bolts...

This is a kit from Red Trailer. The link shows a teardrop made from their 5X8 trailer kit. If I were looking to do this I would prefer just the trailer frame part minus the axle, wheels and fenders. Then get a separate axle and wheels. That way one could get a torsion axle and 14" tires, aluminum wheels and fenders of choice, or whatever. But this is one idea.

Hey, that's my teardrop in the link! The Red Trailers 5x8 frame went together in a couple hours with no welding or drilling needed. It has held up well in three years and about 3,000 miles of use. The 12" wheels look small, but have worked well. I repacked the wheel bearings last summer, but it didn't really need it. The bearings looked like new and the original grease was not black or dirty looking. It's a good trailer!

If your talking about buying the raw materials, cutting to size, drilling, bolting, and making a custom size, yes. However if your goal is to come up with the same size as if you ordered one from harbor frieght, northern tool, or red trailer, then do yourself a favor and make a list of materials, and call around to get the prices and shipping cost. You will be surprised on how much more it will cost you.
