Axle location and tongue weight on 4x8 HF trailer

Postby LDK » Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:18 pm

What would be a good axle position for the harbor freight 94564 1740 lb trailer? I plan on mounting the battery on the tongue and I'll have an average size galley. I was thinking about 37 to 38 inches from the back but more input would be appreciated. Also how strong is that particular trailer frame. Thanks guys

I have that frame and slid my axle back 4 inches from the factory position, about half the distance recommended by most builders. I am quite happy with the location I chose. My trailer is 5x10, so door clearance wasn't an issue. My tear is also higher than most, which moves the center of gravity forward a bit.

The nice thing about this frame is that if you don't build out over the wheels it is relatively easy to move the axle after you build it.
In anything at all, perfection is finally attained not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away.
