Is this even worth looking into?

Postby TJinPgh » Mon Feb 13, 2012 8:45 am

Came across this trailer on craigslist...

Image

The ad says that it's a 5x8 trailer made from an old pop-up. No title. Asking $50.

Looks fairly beat up and rusted. Think it's even worth pursuing?

Also came across these...

16' boat trailer $100

Image

Image

Aluminum. Says it can be adjusted for smaller boats. I'm guessing that it's 16' from tongue to tail?

And this one
Boat trailer $200

Image

Says 14.5'x4'. Again, guessing that's tongue to tail length.

Thoughts on any of these?

IMHO, #1 maybe particularly if it has brakes and you want a bigger trailer and enclosed wheels of the same size as the frame. The others, IMHO, would require modifications and (again IMHO) you'd be better off starting from scratch.

Cheers,

Gus

given that one of the two tow vehicles has a weight limit of only 1000 lbs, bigger isn't really what I'm looking for.

Beyond the amount of work that it looks like it might need, my fear is that it's likely pretty heavy compared to your typical 4x8 or even 5x8.

I also don't think most pop-ups in that size category are likely to have brakes.

I'm not sure what all modifications the 3rd one would need...
