Figuring trailer ball height

Postby Shadow Catcher » Thu Mar 28, 2013 9:16 pm

New trailer hitch new tow vehicle, same trailer and the goal is to have the trailer level. I am kind of trying to figure out some way other than trial and error, of figuring the drop or rise of the draw bar.
Any ideas?

Zach just posted a link to etrailer.com in another thread that shows how to measure.

Here you go: http://www.etrailer.com/faq-ballmount.aspx

Here's the thread, just a couple back: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?p=1001168#p1001168

Thanks just what I need. I went with a class 3 Curt hitch on our new Subaru Outback from Etrailer. I have to say I ordered Monday morning and had delivery Wednesday.
I will be trying a back it up, but needed to know how to measure, also there will be some sag as I am heavy on the tongue.

Just for a quick and dirty, put any hitch you may have in the receiver and hook the trailer up. Then figure what you need to level it up. For instance, if you're 3 inches down, get a hitch that is 3 inches higher than the one that you used.

One problem with trying to measure is it presumes that there is something vaguely level that the trailer sit on and the tow vehicle is on. And you can't tow it to some place flat with out having a draw bar. SO, SWAG scientific wild ass guess 3" rise. Now I have an electrical problem. Tow is wired correctly, now I need to find out why they will not play well together.
