How to keep hubcaps from falling off

Postby corvusallen » Mon Dec 16, 2013 11:01 pm

So, we took the teardrop for its maiden voyage... and one of the hubcaps fell off.

We recovered it, and continued driving, and then the other hubcap started to wobble.

Any tips on how to keep the hubcaps secure? We have 12" wheels and used the only hubcaps we could find for that size.

Get a bag of Nylon cable ties. Loop two or three around hubcap and wheel (assuming both have holes) ,pull tight on the inside face of the wheel and cut off excess. If you hunt around you may find silver coloured ties.

If you need to remove hubcap, cut off the cable ties and replace with a new ones.

Ummm.... Maybe they are not the "correct" hub caps.... All hub caps are not created equal...... How are they held on, by spring clips or "claw" action or ??? need a little more information about hub cap.... Pictures would tell us more what you are dealing with....

OK, just had same expeience. 1st 1200 miles ok, next 250 lost one. Supplier is local so $7.50 just today. But he said they may not be tight enough. Start by tearing about 1 inch, or so, of duct tape and bend it over the wire that runs the o.d. of the inside of the cover. Behind the plastic spoke. Start with every other spoke, add more if needed to make a better fit.
He said that old black cloth type tape (name fails me), not shiney electricle tape, is even better. It is the vibrations, especially at the "slow down" washboard strips on some highways. Coyote

YES! Fraction tape! Gettin' older has some unfortunate side effects...but at least I'm on the green side of the grass! B.t.w. Put tape on both covers today and it did tighten them up. (Now,time will tell). Dave
