Need HF 1720 basic measurements

Postby telemorris » Wed Dec 25, 2013 3:14 pm

Hi,

I'm starting the design process for my first TD. I plan to use a HF 1720 for the frame and the Cub/Modernist design. My wife and I really want a queen bed and I need extra length in the sleeping room since I'm 6'3". That means expanding the footprint to 5 x 10, enclosing the wheels, and raising the floor enough to clear the wheels. I understand the need to move the axle and plan to do so (40%?).

I want to start by making a model of the TD first so I can get my head around the sequence of assembly steps. I don't have room to house the assembled trailer until I'm ready to start assembly of the floor. I hope to be able to cut most of the parts out before putting the TD together.

All this is leading up to asking for some basic measurements of the HF trailer so I can do the scale model.

1. What is the distance from the top of the trailer platform to the top of the stock tire?
2. How much clearance should I provide above the top of the tire for the wheel well?
3. What is the height of the top of the platform from the ground at the wheel?

Not sure what else to ask right at the moment. I'll switch the discussion over to a design build thread once I get basic measurements and can start drawing reasonably accurate plans.

Thanks!

A lot of that was discussed here.

If you don't mind downloading google sketchup, I designed and modeled it to scale before building it. Only the galley and some of the interior cabinetry is different from my design.
