Axle flip on a NT 5x8 trailer

Postby LDK » Fri Dec 27, 2013 12:13 pm

I was wondering if anyone ever flip the axle on their NT trailers. When I say flipped I mean put the axle (above) the springs instead of below it to lower the overall profile.
I know plenty of builders did this to their HF trailers, me included, but I don't recall anyone doing this to a NT trailer. Is it possible? and if so what would the ground to frame clearance be.

I flipped the axle on our 5x8NT that is a atv and camp/hunt gear carrier. It's 66 miles away from here right now so I can not measure the ride height. It was a nice drop[ though that makes for easier atv loading. 17" maybe???

One thing to check is to see whether or not your axle is dead straight or if it has built in camber. A good trailer axle should have some camber built in. Mine was not cambered so flipping was no issue. Otherwise new perches need to be welded on.
