Wheels for a '58 Kenskill?

Postby 2bits » Fri Jan 10, 2014 12:17 am

Hi guys, I have a 1958 Kenskill and the wheels do not match and due to a blowout on the way home from buying it, one of those wheels is now bent. It's a 16' trailer and has 6 lugs on a 4-3/4 bolt pattern on 15" wheels. Can anyone help? I am already planning on replacing the springs just for safety but I prefer to not replace the whole axle but I am considering it just to have more readily available bearings and brake parts...

I can’t help you with the wheel size, but you’re right to consider the other headaches that you might have with the brakes, bearings, etc. I’m working on a 1956, and I should have gone with a new axle. First, the grease seals were no longer a stock item and had to be ordered at $20 apiece. Standard 15” rims don’t fit over the brake drums so I’m trying to hunt down bigger rims. I’ve spent almost as much as a new axle would have cost trying to re-work the old one. If you could get a complete axle with springs and brakes and hubs to fit off the shelf rims, I think that you’d come out ahead. You put a lot of effort into fetching that camper; I look forward to seeing more pictures.

Some things to look at..... Maybe replacing just the hubs with a more common 5 stud pattern.... Possible have matching wheels made to fit existing pattern....

IF you supply lug pattern (size) and diameter and width and offset, these people can make it for you....

Your 6 on 4 3/4 seems to be a odd size.... Might be better to just do the whole thing right, and replace everything and if it does not have brakes add them at same time....

On a 6 lug rim you need to measure directly across the bolt pattern. It should be something like 6 on 5 1/2 or some such.

I am now just spit balling but I think the old dodge trucks were 6 lug. I found a site where they will give you a list of vehicles with a given spacing. Measure directly across center to center of lug hole and I'll look.

I learned something here about correctly measuring the patterns.

I googled that pattern and came up with Dodge Dakota wheels. If true, then you can get them in 15",16", and probably 17" if you want.
